National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage month is an annual celebration from September 15th through October 15th that honors the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose ancestry can be traced to 20 countries and one territory including Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Spain.
According to Fidelity, Latinos engaged in their workplace’s retirement plans show the highest level of financial confidence compared to peers. However, these high levels of motivation and financial confidence are not enough to ensure Latinos are prepared for their long-term needs. As many Latino households are largely focused on day-to-day financial priorities, such as paying down debt, building emergency savings, and saving for health care..
These familial finances can prevent employees from making additional contributions to their long-term savings accounts. Therefore, this is also an opportunity for employees turning 50 to make extra contribution to their retirement account known as catch-up contributions, which means an extra $6,500 can be added annually to your current contributions. In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Fidelity is hosting a free webinar on Thursday October 6th at 2 pm titled, “Conversations about Community, Family and Money”, during which Fidelity’s Latino representatives will share their personal stories and talk about what participants can do today to help reach their financial goals and build generational wealth for their families.
